Description: Kunzea ambigua, a shrub endemic  to Australasia, is characterized by its small, fragrant flowers featuring stamens that extend beyond the petals.

The scent profile is characterized by a fresh, crisp, and woody aroma, reminiscent of eucalyptus and fragonia, with a subtle suggestion of manuka. The essential oil is clear to pale yellow in colour and exhibits a thin, lightweight consistency. Its fragrance is classified as a top to middle note within perfumery.

Kunzea essential oil provides a milder alternative to Tea Tree Oil. It is obtained through steam distillation of the plant biomass, resulting in a composition rich in various bioactive compounds. Notably, it contains five sesquiterpenes (C15), making it unique among essential oils in this regard. Similar to Tea Tree, Kunzea is particularly effective in personal care formulations targeting skin concerns, owing to its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

This species’ distinctive profile of phytocompounds—including alpha-terpineol, globulol, spathulenol, ledol, and bicyclogermacrene—offers a range of benefits that can be leveraged in formulations intended to promote skin health and alleviate muscular or arthritic discomfort.

Constituents:

  • a-Pinene
  • 1,8-Cineole
  • Viridiflorol
  • Globulol
  • Bicyclogermacrene
  • a-Terpineol

Safety: For external use only. Should be diluted prior to skin application. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth. May cause skin irritation for some individuals, a skin patch test is recommended prior to use. Consult your healthcare professional before using essential oils during pregnancy.
